Chum Raises Awareness And Honors The Homeless

It amazes me when I hear of the homeless in our area. But, if you look close, they're there, wandering the city streets in tattered clothing, looking for warmth, a hearty meal and friendship.

Please join Duluth's faith community as they gather this Thursday, December 24th at Noon on the steps of City Hall to remember and honor our homeless and formerly homeless neighbors who have died this year as well as receive a message of hope.

Deb Holman, a CHUM's Street Outreach Worker will read the names of 44 Duluthians who died this past year. A number higher than in 2014. A candle will be lit in honor of each of those that passed as their names are read by CHUM Center's Staff and local Native Activist, Shawn Sillyhorse Carr.

Some lives were lost to violence, some chronic illnesses, and others because of health disparities. Community prayer will be included for those who have are still missing.

Please bring a donation of warm weather clothing to the vigil, like hats, jackets, sleeping bags, gloves/mittens and hand warmers. These items will be distributed to help those in need stay warm this winter.

The service this year will be hosted by CHUM’s member congregations, St. Andrew’s by the Lake Episcopal Church, Trinity Episcopal Church and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
