A couple years ago during the Christmas shopping season I found a Keurig on sale. I bought it as a gift for my wife, who LOVES coffee. We initially loved it. It was super convenient! We could make hot chocolate with it, hot cider, and different flavors of coffee. But it wasn't until the first time we ran out of K cups that we made a realization.

First, somehow we kept running out of K cups. I don't know why or how that happened, but it was always on a Saturday morning at home. I would open the drawer for a cup, and they were gone. I dusted off the old coffee pot that was now in the closet, searched for a filter, and luckily found some coffee grounds.

We brewed that pot of coffee. Now, something else I should mention. I recently starting drinking my coffee black. Without the added flavor and creamer, this cup of coffee was really good. I shrugged my shoulders and didn't think anything else about it.

We went to the store, got more K cups and continued using them for a while. Then, one day I decided to just brew another big pot of coffee for us on the weekend. Once again, I couldn't get over how much better the coffee tastes.

There's something about brewed coffee that tastes so much better than a K cup. Also have you ever noticed the difference in flavor of the K cups? They all taste the same to me.

I'm not knocking the Keurig. If that's your thing, that's fine. But I think sometimes we get caught up in the newest latest and greatest thing, and we forget that the way they've been making coffee for generations, may still be the best way.

I went out and bought a new programmable coffee pot for $29, and we're going to put it to good use.
