When Did Personal Travel Pillows Become So Trendy
The last time I flew was to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and that was when I purchased my first U-shaped travel pillow. Last week while we were walking through the airport I noticed that almost everyone had a travel pillow. It was either around their neck, tied to their carry on or like me had it stuffed in one of their suitcases.
If you’ve traveled in an airplane you know that the cabin of the aircraft can get chilly while in flight. Years ago they offered a blanket and pillow, which we welcomed with a smile from the flight attendant (then called airline stewardess) then you snuggled into your too tiny seat for a snooze. When we started to take notice of “gross things” in our lives, the airline pillow and blanket immediately made the list.
Rumor has it (and I didn’t know who to call that would give me a straight answer), that the pillows and blankets weren’t washed in between the flights, simply re-used (again, not confirmed, it was hearsay, but totally makes sense with airline’s turn around times). EEEEEEWWWWWWWWW!
The answer to that one is simple and one that has changed the way we travel. We all now carry our own personal U-shaped neck pillow with us every time we travel. I’m pretty proud of myself, I had to make mine about the size of a postage stamp to fit into the one and only “personal item” I was allowed to bring on the plane without paying an additional $80.
