Nothing short of jaw dropping!  Don't be surprised if you walk into the new Mills Fleet Farm in Hermantown for the first time and you are awestruck by the enormity of the building, the number of departments and the product selection.  It was not what I was expecting.

Maybe it's because while the main retail store along with gas pumps, 3 bay car wash and convenience store was being built on 4.5 acres at 4165 Loberg Avenue in Hermantown you couldn't really see it's progress, it sits high and tucked back on a hill.  Anticipation has been high for a store that was founded by the Mills brothers back in 1955 after their father suggested they look for a building to start their new business.  That was three generations ago and much, much smaller than the 17,000 square foot building in Hermantown.

When it started out they catered mostly to the farming community.  While that hasn't changed they decided to broaden their menu and cater to everybody. Seriously, everybody of any age or walk of life will find one or more things at this store of interest.  Personally, I was very impressed with their line of Carhart and work wear, including footwear and boots.  Their sporting goods department is so big it lines one entire section, the length of the building and every sport is represented.  Bicycles, ball sports, boating supplies, fishing, firearms, hunting and camping.

To show diversity of Mills Fleet Farm, I should tell you about the grocery section.  Not just a few aisles of snacks (although they have those too), but complete canning supplies, a section within a section dedicated to camp and outdoor cooking that features the Mills Fleet Farm's very own line of spices, rubs and sauces and an entire aisle of an endless selection of nuts.  I'm sure when holiday baking season comes in a few months this is where locals will flock!  It's not just dry goods though, you can also pick up frozen items and cold beverages.

While you're shopping you can have your car serviced or if you're in need of lumber, they have a drive in lumber yard, to add to the diversity.  My description of the store just doesn't do it justice.  You will have to come experience the store, opening for business for the first time at 7:00 am on Wednesday, August 17 for yourself.  Plan to spend some time, you're going to need it!
