The forecast across the area is calling for snow, which is what is needed as Minnesota snowmobile trails are set to open on Tuesday, December 1, but they they need more snow before riding can begin.

Course conditions for the first–ever Midwest Extreme Snowmobile Challenge are good and all events, including the cross-country race, are expected to proceed as planned this weekend at Lutsen Mountains.

I use to be so scared of our snowmobile.  I would play in the snow at age 4 while my dad and sister would ride the Scorpion around the yard, running up on the porch shaking my head NO when they would stop and ask me if I wanted to ride.  Then, I got the guts to sit on it one day and dad took off.  My first ride on a snowmobile was a surprise, but honestly, you couldn't get me off the dang thing af

Although more snow would be better, it's the time of the year to think snowmobiling.  The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources wants to remind Minnesota riders that certain vehicles are no longer allowed on snowmobile trails this year.

We've had an early blast of winter with below freezing temps and snow for a few solid weeks.  That means lakes are starting to freeze over.  Which also means there will be somebody too eager to go out on the ice and break through.  It happens every year.  So, once again we'll try to remind everyone that it's not safe yet!  Here are the guidelines straight from the Minnesota DNR.

I am so proud of the engineering class at Nashwauk-Keewatin!  It was an all hands on project that took a lot of imagination, planning and the donation of a snowmobile. High School Industrial Technology and Engineering Instructor, AJ Abate challenged his students and they delivered with flying colors, or we should say with a flying hovercraft!
