Valleyfair is turning 50 this year. That's quite the milestone! They are celebrating the anniversary with some special events and some new attractions. They closed down most of Soak City waterpark in August to start work on their new, revamped water park, which they have been teasing as "Something Superior."

The speculation is that it will be called 'Superior Shores Water Park' when it opens for the 50th season. The park, located in Shakopee, is about 178 miles away from Lake Superior, but given the fact that the world's largest freshwater lake is in the region, the theme could work. (As long as tourists don't think it's actually near Lake Superior.)

According to the YouTube channel RideRover, a trademark request for Superior Shores Waterpark was filed by Six Flags last summer. Six Flags is selling Valleyfair to EPR Properties, but Valleyfair will retain the Six Flags Brand through 2026. They have promised to keep the park open through the transition.

Crews have been working over the winter to get the new waterpark ready for the 50th anniversary. While some Valleyfair enthusiasts are excited for the new water park, some are complaining about wanting a new roller coaster instead. Valleyfair currently has 8 rollercoasters: Corkscrew, Cosmic Coaster, Excalibur, High Roller, Mad Mouse, Renegade, Steel Venom, and Wild Thing.

The park opens for season pass holders on preview day on May 9th. It's open to the general public on May 15th, 2026.

As part of their 50th-year celebration, fans of Valleyfair are encouraged to submit photos from their trips to the park over the years through an online submission. You could be featured in the celebration.
