Even though concerned parents have started petitions and plan to speak at the next board meeting, Superior School District officials intend to ignore the requests and move forward with their plans for later start times for the 2019-2020 school year.  The taxpayers have children affected by the new, later start times for the 2019-2020 school and are concerned about both the affects on their children and the way in which the original vote took place.

As we reported about a month ago, the Superior School Board voted to alter the start times for most of the elementary schools in the district - with new start times as late as 9:15 AM.  Not only was the time change controversial - but so was the way in which it was voted on.

Superior District Administrator Amy Starzecki says that the petitions will have no consequence.  According to an article in the Superior Telegram, she says that as a "unified district.....the Board is not required to act on a petition".  Starzecki says "My understanding is we’re moving forward with the change".

Here are the new bell times for Superior's 2019-2020 school year:

  • Lake Superior & Four Corners:  9:15 AM - 3:45 PM
  • Bryant, Cooper, Great Lakes, Northern Lights:  9:00 AM - 3:30 PM
  • Superior Middle School:  8:00 AM - 3:05 PM
  • Superior High School:  7:55 AM - 3:06 PM
