I was scrolling through my Facebook feed when I saw an article about another motorcycle accident. This one took place in Northern Minnesota, according to Northern News Now. The motorcyclist has been hospitalized following the accident.

Before I even read the article, I could see what caused this crash. If you look closely, you can see the tire mark leave the white line. I figured what probably happened was that there was loose gravel on the corner, and the bike slid out from underneath the rider. I'm praying for a good recovery for the motorcyclist.

Why Spring Is So Deadly For Motorcyclists?

We're all waiting to get out and get on our bikes in the spring after a long Minnesota winter. As soon as the warm temps hit, we're firing up our motorcycles and looking for a windy two-lane cruise.

The problem is that roads, intersections, and shoulders are still covered with loose sand from winter road operations. We also haven't had the rain we need to naturally wash off the roads.

Not to mention it's also pothole season, and hitting a pothole on two wheels can be dangerous as well.

Drivers Aren't Used To Seeing Motorcycles After Winter Months

And then there's the biggest worry: other drivers. "Look twice, save a life." "Star Seeing Motorcycles." These are signs on billboards you see for a reason. People just don't see motorcycles, and the most common type of motorcycle accident is when a vehicle pulls out in front of a motorcycle.

That's always a danger, any time you're on a bike. That's why I hate dark-tinted windows on vehicles. I like to make eye contact to make sure the driver sees me and doesn't pull out. Tinted windows don't do anyone any good.

If you're riding, take it easy and watch for that loose sand. Assume other vehicles don't see you, and wear a helmet.
