Last week I heard a knock at my door. It was 8:30 at night, and I thought it was rather late for someone to be knocking on doors. I figured it was a neighbor or someone who had an emergency. When I answered, a man I did not recognize was standing there.

He introduced himself and shook my hand. I don't remember what name he used, but I do remember everything else. He said he lived down the street and we met this summer.  "Remember?" he said. Not wanting to be rude I shrugged and said yes.

He then went on to say that his daughter was in his car and they just got out of the hospital. He didn't have his "plastic" on him and his wife was out of town. He then asked me if I knew what a nebulizer was.  (Of course I do.) He asked if he could have $21 so he could go buy the medication his daughter needed.

It was a convincing story, but he didn't fool me. I said no, he got upset, and went back to his car. He then drove to the end of the block, walked back, and hit up my neighbors. He went door to door down the whole street.

I saw later on a Superior Facebook page that he's been doing this for years. He's hit up Superior, West Duluth, and Lincoln park. Same story, same places. Call the cops if you see him, and don't give him the time of day. He's about 5 foot 8, thin beard & mustache, medium build, wears glasses, black, and says his name is Charles. (It isn't.)
