Each year 'US News and World Report' releases its annual list of best colleges in the country, the latest 2022-2023 rankings are out, let's see how UMD and UWS faired.

Let's start with the biggest of the two, the University of Minnesota Duluth was ranked 33rd in the Regional Universities Midwest list, it was a 4-way tie for that spot, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, Lawrence Technological University, Carthage College, all share that 33rd spot.

UMD also is the 6th in the Top Public Schools category, the 14th best college for Veterans, and was ranked #46 in the Best Value Schools list. The rankings also give some other valuable information like class size, 42.2% of UMD classes have fewer than 20 students and the student-faculty ratio is 16:1. The average median starting salary of UMD alumni is $52,300. Overall, UMD was ranked 67/100.

UWS has a much better student-faculty ratio, 13:1, and 67.8% of classes have fewer than twenty students, but the average starting salary of alumni is about $10,000 lower than UMD at $43,300.

Some other notable local inclusions on the list include The College of St. Scholastica ranking #234 in the National Universities category, and Northland College in Ashland was ranked higher than both UMD and UWS in the Regional Colleges Midwest list ranking #19.

Princeton University in New Jersey was ranked as the #1 National University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology was ranked second and another Massachusetts school rounds off the top 3, of course, that would be Harvard University.
