I knew it would only be a matter of time before construction hit my side of town.  I've been warning you of bridge closures and detours and up until now, it hasn't affected me in my daily driving.  But, for those of us in the Lincoln Park District, the time has come.  Here's what you need to know to make sure you pick an alternative route to get you to your destination on time.

Concrete repair work will begin Monday, June 30 and require the closure of several blocks along 24th Ave West, specifically between West 1st and 3rd Streets and between West 4th and 6th Streets.  However, intersections in the work area will remain open and they plan to maintain access to the local businesses and residential properties.

I couldn't believe how many water main breaks we had in the city this winter.  That is why the repair is needed.  During the previous excavations that took place in order to repair the water main breaks only temporary patching was installed.

Work crews have already done the prep work so starting Monday, June 30th, the road will close to thru-traffic.  It will start with concrete removal followed by concrete paving, at which time the impacted blocks will be completely inaccessible to allow the concrete to cure. Motorists should watch for crews flagging traffic and follow the signed detours.

The public should expect the road to open to all traffic, weather permitting, on July 9, 2014.

The City thanks the public for their patience and cooperation as crews work to improve road conditions for all transit users.
