Just because fall is right around the corner, don't expect road construction projects to come to an end as there is still plenty of work to be done throughout the Northland.

The Twin Ports Interchange Project is a year-round project, so there could be related traffic implications at any time. Another project that continues is the demolition and related projects surrounding the demolition of the old St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth.

This week, the City of Duluth announced the partial closure of a busy intersection due to ongoing construction work at the site.

City Of Duluth Announces Partial Closure Beginning Monday, September 16

A partial closure began on Monday, September 16 at the intersection of Third Street
and Sixth Avenue East to allow for ongoing construction work. The closure will affect traffic on Third Street and also southbound traffic on Sixth Avenue East.

The closure includes the southbound lanes of Sixth Avenue East between Fourth Street and Second Street, as well as a lane closure on Third Street. Drivers traveling on Third Street should expect one lane of traffic through the intersection.

The City also advises drivers to seek alternative routes through the area if possible due to other ongoing construction, as traffic delays are likely.

Motorists should consider utilizing Lake Avenue or approaching the hospital district from the west, using Second Street if possible. Northbound traffic on Sixth Avenue East will remain open but ongoing construction work for private development may reduce the lanes available.
