Paisley Park Says No Celebration Event This Year
The yearly event that celebrates the music and legacy of Minnesota's own Prince will be put off another year.
The yearly festival will need to be cancelled this year because of COVID-19 protocols and current restrictions by the state of Minnesota. The first Celebration events started before the star's death, in 2000, 2001, and 2002 Prince held a yearly event in June.
A year after his death Paisley Park brought back the event around the anniversary of his death, Celebration 2017 was held April 20th - 23rd with performances by The Revolution, Morris Day and the Time, the New Power Generation, and Prince's final backing band, 3RDEYEGIRL.
Paisley Park Executive Director Alan Seiffert said in a press release, "We can see the light at the end of the tunnel and look forward to when we can safely gather in the way this event deserves." The last celebration event was April 25th - 28th 2019 with Jesse Johnson of The Time, The Revolution, and members of the NPG.
Paisley Park isn't letting this anniversary of his death go without anything special, Monday, April 5th the former home and production studios of Prince will be offering free tours to the public.
Paisley Park also took the opportunity to tease some new stuff on the horizon with Seiffert saying that they have some stuff coming up that will, "excite our fans, especially our fashion fans, whether here in Minnesota or connecting with us virtually."
