Old Farmer’s Almanac: Here’s What Weather January 2021 Will Bring
January is just a few days away and I think I speak for many of us when I say we are ready for a new year. Ha!
It has been an overall mild winter for the 2020 - 2021 season. We haven't had a major snowstorm, like the huge blizzard of 2019. We have seen a few periods of moderate snowfall but overall, nothing of note.
So how will we kick off the new year? To find that answer, I turned to the Old Farmer's Almanac. While you have to take their predictions with a grain of salt, it is always fun to see what they predict for the future weather-wise.
According to their predictions, for the first few days of the month, we can expect sunshine with a cold snap. From January third through the sixth, we will see snowy conditions but mild temperatures. It looks like we will see a little bit of everything the first week of the month!
From January seventh through the sixteenth, we can expect snow showers with cold temperatures in the east and mild conditions in the western part of the forecasting region.
The forecast region will see flurries and mild conditions mid-month, from January 17th through the 24th. Things will be pretty much the same from the 25th through the end of the month, with snow showers followed by flurries and cold temperatures to close out the month.
This seems pretty standard for a January winter. In fact, it looks like it will actually be a mild month compared to usual! For some good news, soak in the fact that we are looking at temperatures right around average. January is known for being brutally cold so this isn't too bad! (Our average temperature is thirteen degrees by the way.)
We also aren't looking at a ton of snow, as the Old Farmer's Almanac predicts below-average precipitation for the month. Wow!
Don't get too excited though. We are bracing ourselves for a La Niña winter and it will make its way to us eventually!
