Northland Family's Dog Was Murdered, Reward Offered For Evidence

A Northland family is mourning the lost of their beloved German Shepherd after the dog was apparently murdered. It happened on Wednesday night when a Chisholm family was outside decorating for Christmas.

The Skaudis family were putting up Christmas lights outside with their two dogs. They have a female shepherd and then 7 year old Ruger. At one point, Ruger went missing, which according to the family is very unlike him. They last saw the dog on their ring camera at 6:19pm.

Owner Cristin Skaudis said they searched all night for Ruger with no luck finding him. They called every rescue shelter and vet in the area. Nobody knew where Ruger was.

The next morning on Thanksgiving Day, a good Samaritan who was out walking their own dog discovered Ruger dumped on the side of the road near a bulldozer. It was near Cemetery Road in Chisholm.

It appears someone killed the dog and dumped the body. The family is heartbroken. They describe the family pet as a gentle dog with a great disposition. Even the mail lady liked this dog and would bring Ruger treats.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help increase the reward money to find who is responsible for this dog's death. The reward at this time is $1,300 according to an article from WDIO. They ask that anyone who has information to call 218-248-0178. You can also call your local police station. At this time, they've already surpassed their goal of $500 on their GoFundMe page.

While they hope to find answers for what happened to their family pet and the person responsible, they also want to warn others to keep an eye on your pets and children.
