One of the best races in the Northland is returning this year - the North End Nightmare 5K! The spooky race will take place in October and registration opens soon.

In case you haven't heard about it, the North End Nightmare 5K is a fun race that takes you through the streets of Superior. Each road has a scary theme, filled with witches, clowns, creepy dolls and more.

The race is also fun in that it takes place later in the day so the sun is starting to set. This makes the race and the creatures you encounter along the way even spookier! It's also fun to see all the costumes.

If you haven't run this race yet, it is my favorite of the entire year. It isn't about being the first or racing super fast. It is about having fun and celebrating Halloween without any pressure. You don't want to miss out.

I was excited to see that the race is back this year! It always marks a great year of races. From the Fitger's 5K to all of the Grandma's races, it is a fun way to round out the year before winter arrives and we put away our running shoes for awhile.

The race also finishes near Earth Rider Brewery, which means you can celebrate your win with a cold one. Registration for the race officially opens on Thursday, September 1st. Aside from the main 5k, there is also a family-friendly race for kids called the Spider Dash.

Prices to take part in the races are as follows:

  • $35 dollars for adults
  • $15 dollars for kids ages 12 and under
  • FREE for kids 14 years and younger (Spider Dash Kids Race)

The race will kick off at 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 22nd. It will begin at Earth Rider Brewery, which is located in Superior at 1715 North 3rd Street. There is usually a fun celebration there after the race.

It should be noted that the main course may be a little bit scary for younger kids. Organizers ask that you call them and discuss concerns with them so they can guide you through what to expect personally. You can call them at 218-727-0947.

The streets, as mentioned, are themed with people dressed in costume to frighten you! The themes and different roads you'll encounter during the North End Nightmare 5K are as follows:

  • Mad Science Lab
  • Graveyard
  • Witches Coven Tree
  • Spider's Nest
  • Lost Souls Lane
  • Creepy Clown Town
  • Reaper's Gate
  • Nightmare Nursery
  • Zombie Yard

No Halloween event is complete without a costume contest. There will be prizes given out for the best costumes. There will be signage on site with details on how you can enter the costume contest. Just make sure the costume is something you can run in!

The first North End Nightmare 5K happened back in 2019. Ever since, it has become a favorite among locals and it's easy to see why! Plus, scary ghouls and clowns chasing after you definitely motivates you to finish the race in a timely manner. Register if you dare.

If you still aren't convinced, I wrote about five different reasons you should take part in the North End Nightmare 5K back in the day. Every single thing I said still stands!
