Need A Laugh? Middleditch & Schwartz on Netflix Is Hilarious
We're still under stay at home orders, and I think it's safe to say most of us are bouncing off the walls. We are under a lot of stress and a lot of us could use a good distraction. I know I spent most of the day kind of crabby yesterday, but I'm so glad I found this show to end my evening, because I laughed so hard. Middleditch & Schwartz are two comedians who have been doing improv shows for quite some time. I was first introduced to them on a Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend podcast. Both of them are famous on their own. Middleditch starred in HBO's 'Silicon Valley.' Schwartz was on 'Parks & Rec.' Together they are even better.
The premise of the show is it's just regular improvisational comedy. None of it is scripted or rehearsed. It's nothing new, but it's something that we haven't seen on a platform like this before. It's long form improv, which means they spend a good amount of time on it and develop characters throughout. They start out with some interaction with the audience to get some material to work with. Then they start and improvise their way through a roughly 45 minute long bit.
I have to tell you that the first episode 'Parking Lot Wedding' had me laughing the hardest I have in a long time. It's so good. But, I'll give you this advice. Turn off your phone. If you get distracted at all, you'll miss the comedic genius.
There's only 3 episodes, and I really hope they come out with more, because this show is killer, and we need more laughs like this.
