Gross as it may be, roadkill is a common roadside feature - deer, raccoons, skunks...and then there's this. A mystery creature was discovered on a rural Douglas County road near Alexandria, MN and speculation on what the animal is has caught the attention of many area residents along with the Department of Natural Resources - who have begun investigating the finding.

KSAX television reports local DNR wildlife supervisor Kevin Kotts has his guesses:

It's got five long front claws on each of its front feet, which would be characteristic of a badger. I ran the pictures past a few other DNR folks that have a lot of trapping and/or fur-bare experience, and they all said, it's hard to be 100 percent sure what it is ... but if it's a Minnesota animal, it's probably a badger.

Other guesses from area residents have included: dog, wolf, pig, wolverine, and the mythical Chupacabra.

What do you think this creature could be? Stay tuned for updates on the investigation.
