Minnesotan Takes Home Award For ‘Best Picture’ At Oscars [VIDEO]
And just like that...another award season has come and gone.
The Academy Awards aired Sunday night (February 24th) and there was no shortage of big moments, huge surprises and sad snubs.
One of the biggest moments from the show? When 'Green Book' took home the night's highest honor - Best Picture.
This is a big moment in and of itself for fans of the movie but even more so for Minnesotans alike. One of the film's producers is from Edina (and went to the University of Minnesota, no less)! Jim Burke worked on the famous movie and accepted the Oscar on behalf of the cast and crew. Check it out below:
In the speech, Burke says they made the movie with love, tenderness and respect before handing the mic over to the film's director.
'Green Book' was nominated for five Academy Awards, taking home three when all was said and done. One of those was the trophy for Best Supporting Actor. Mahershala Ali won the category for the second time. He also has Minnesota ties, having studied acting at the Guthrie Experience For Actors In Training back in 1999.
'Green Book' is a film about a world-class pianist and a bouncer from the Bronx who strike up an unlikely friendship in the era of segregation.
By the way - there were a few other stars with ties to the Land of 10,000 Lakes that didn't take home Oscar gold this year but there is always next year!
