Minnesota Vikings Sign Former Tampa Bay Quarterback Josh Freeman to a 1-Year Deal

Following Thursday's release from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Josh Freeman and the Minnesota Vikings have reportedly agreed to terms on a 1-year, $3 million deal.As reported earlier, Vikings GM Rick Spielman is a big fan of the 2009 first round pick out of Kansas State; so the news of the signing isn't particularly surprising considering the current quarterback situation in Minnesota.

Freeman's agent broke the news last night on Twitter with a short message

Through his time in the NFL, Freeman has thrown for 13,534 yards and 80 touchdowns while picking up 922 yards rushing with 4 touchdowns on the ground. Last season, Freeman passed for more than 4,000 yards and 27 touchdowns.

According to FOX Sports NFL reporter Jay Glazer, the Vikings were hoping for a longer deal than they got initially; showing the Vikings have some belief that Freeman could be a worthwhile investment.

Freeman's signing comes a week before the Vikings take on the Carolina Panthers, an opponent Freeman is familiar with due to both the Buccaneers and Panthers being in the same division. While this has many speculating Freeman will be getting the start in week 6, this would mean he will need to get a good grasp on the Vikings offense fast. More clarity is expected in the next couple days as Freeman arrives in Minnesota and begins working with the team.
