Minnesota Vikings Cut Kicker Dan Bailey

The only thing I'm shocked about is that it didn't happen sooner.

The Minnesota Vikings have decided to cut veteran kicker Dan Bailey after three seasons with the team. Bailey had a rough 2020 season he missed seven of his 22 field goal attempts and ended the season with a 68.2 field goal percentage.

In his time with the Vikings Bailey played in 46 regular season games with an overall field goal percentage of 79.7 percent making 63 of 79 field goals and 107 of 118 extra points. His longest field goal with the Vikings was 53 yards.

Back in December Coach Mike Zimmer said that he was "really disappointed" after Bailey missed four field goals vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in December. Zimmer went on to say that he "loved the kid" and that Bailey was "very even-natured."

Bailey joined the NFL in 2011 as an undrafted free agent by the Dallas Cowboys, he spent 7 years with them before the joining the Vikings. At one time Bailey had he second-best career field-goal percentage in NFL history, today he sits at number 12 on that list.

The move to terminate Bailey's contract leave the Vikings with only one kicker on the roster, the team signed veteran kicker Greg Joseph in February. Joseph spent the 2018 season with the Cleveland Browns, in 2019 he kicked for the Tennessee Titans, and he spent last season on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad.
