Road construction projects continue across Minnesota and recently the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced a series of weekend closures that will impact southbound travel on a portion of I-35W.

The first closure has already taken place and now motorists need to be aware the second closure is about to take place and the third closure is also on the calendar.

MnDOT announced that starting Friday, July 28, there will be closures of southbound I-35W between I-494 in Bloomington and I-35E in Burnsville. This is to allow crews to continue resurfacing I-35W and improving ramps, sidewalks, and signals at several intersections. This closure is scheduled to begin at 10:00 p.m. Friday, July 28, and continue through 5:00 a.m. on Monday, July 31.

MnDOT adds that southbound ramps between 82nd Street and I-35E, as well as the northbound I-35W E-ZPass lane between 106th Street and 82nd Street, will also be closed during this time. Motorists will be detoured from I-494 to Hwy 77 to I-35E.

After the weekend closure, the following ramps and lanes will remain closed through late August:

  • The ramps from 98th Street to southbound I-35W are closed. There will be a detour from Lyndale Ave. to 106th St.

Motorists are urged to plan ahead and allow extra time to reach their destination. All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule-permitting and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to be attentive at all times, drive with caution, and slow down in work zones where workers are present.

The third weekend closure on southbound I-35W is scheduled to begin on August 4.
