McDonald’s Announces Mandatory Face Mask Policy

McDonald's is the latest major business to announce a mandatory face mask policy.

The chain announced the news on Friday (July 24th), stating that their top priority is "protecting the health and well-being of our and our franchisees’ employees and customers." The policy goes into effect on Saturday, August 1st.

All McDonald's locations nationwide will be enforcing the new policy, which simply states that face masks are a requirement inside restaurants. According to the chain's press release, if someone refuses to wear a face mask, they will be dealt with in a "friendly, expedited way." Staff will be trained on how to handle the situation.

On top of the new face mask policy, McDonald's will also be making two other big changes to ensure the safety of customers and employees. First, they will be adding protective panels to the front and back of the house. They will also be putting a pause on opening their dining rooms again for at least thirty days.

The restaurant states in their press release that most of their locations nationwide are already in places that require face masks. This is true for all of the McDonald's locations in Duluth and Minnesota, as Governor Walz issued a mandatory face mask order for the entire state, which is already in effect. However, there are locations in parts of Wisconsin where no face mask order is currently in place.
