Events To Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr

Most people remember Martin Luther King Jr as the man that lead the peaceful march of 250,000 people in  Washington, D.C., then delivered his address, "l Have a Dream".   At the age of thirty-five, Martin Luther King, Jr., was the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize. He turned the prize money for winning the award, over $50,000 over to his cause.

Today, we remember Martin Luther King Jr.  You are invited to take part in a breakfast, march and showing of a movie in Duluth to commemorate this symbolic leader.

A Free Community Breakfast will be held starting at 7:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 2430 West Third Street, Duluth. The breakfast features a broadcast of Naomi Tutu’s speech from Minneapolis. Non-perishable food items are requested for donation.

A March and Rally will take place after the breakfast. Those planning to march from the Washington Center (corner of 4th Street and Lake Ave) to the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC) should gather at 10:30 a.m. at the Washington Center. The march will begin at 11:00 a.m. and the rally will begin at the DECC at 11:45 a.m. with keynote speaker, Dr. Janet Haynes.

Tonight at 6:00 p.m., the Duluth Labor Temple is showing the movie “At the River I Stand”, 2002 London Road. Non-perishable food items are requested for donation.
