As the Minnesota Vikings season gets more and more promising, more and more players are being recognized across the league.  The latest honor was awarded to a fan and locker room favorite, Marcus Sherels.

Sherels has become the 1st punt returner in Vikings history to win Special Teams Player of the Week after recording his 3rd career punt return for a touchdown in the Vikings 23-20 win over Chicago. Sherels’ 3 punt return TDs is the most in franchise history.

The 65-yard TD return was Sherels’ 5th punt return of over 50 yards, establishing a franchise record while bumping his career punt return average to 10.6 yards, which is also a team-best.

Sherels finished the game with 77 punt return yards on 3 returns (25.7 yard average) in addition to 2 special teams tackles. The Rochester, Minn., native is tied for a team-high 5 special teams tackles this season.

Since Special Teams Coordinator Mike Priefer joined the Vikings in 2011, his unit has scored 9 special teams TDs (4KOR, 3PR, 2BP), which is tied for the most in the NFL in that span and has seen 7 NFC Special Teams Players of the Week.

The Minnesota Vikings return home on Sunday to face a very tough St. Louis Rams team who present a challenge with their stout defense and rookie running back sensation Todd Gurley.
