Lauren Alaina is asking potential Dancing With the Stars voters for some advanced, Heavenly aid. The country star admits that she's not especially confident she'll do well on the TV dancing competition's 28th season.

During a recent stop at 102.5 KNIX's Acoustic Summer show in Phoenix, Ariz., Alaina explained that the series' Season 27 winner, country radio DJ Bobby Bones, encouraged her to go from a performer on the show to one of its contestants, adding a self-depreciating plea: "Everyone really needs to pray for me," Alaina says, "because I’m not a dancer."

Dancer or not, Alaina is looking to become the third country music personality to win the series. In addition to Bones' DWTS victory in 2018, Kellie Pickler won Season 16's mirror ball trophy in 2013. Additional past Dancing With the Stars contestants from the world of country music include Sara Evans, Billy Ray Cyrus, Wynonna Judd, Jana Kramer and John Schneider.

According to Bones, Alaina's self-doubt is normal, and her lack of experience doesn't eliminate her as a possible winner. "She was like, 'But I’ve never danced!' I was like, 'Yeah, me either.' I didn’t know I was gonna win at that point [when I agreed to do the show]," he told The Boot at the 2019 ACM Honors.

"I was like, 'It doesn’t matter. It’s really hard, but you’re gonna love it,'" Bones adds, noting that he advises Alaina not to give in to the pre-show jitters that come with practice.

"She hasn’t started practicing yet, though, and that’s the crazy part, when you actually start," he continues. "My advice to her is, you’re gonna feel super inadequate at times because you can’t keep up, but you’re not supposed to keep up, yet. But that’s okay, and that’s normal."

Alaina noted in her interview that several cast and crew members from her 2011 experience on American Idol now work with Dancing With the Stars. Alaina was the 10th season Idol runner-up, to fellow country star Scotty McCreery.

Dancing With the Stars returns to ABC on Sept. 16. Alaina will compete against 11 other celebrities, including supermodel Christie Brinkley, Supremes member Mary Wilson and former White House press secretary Sean Spicer.
