Kacey Musgraves was a big winner at the 61st annual Grammy Awards on Sunday (Feb. 10). Musgraves spoke backstage about her four wins, admitting it would take a while to get used to the idea of her big night.

Musgraves swept all four of the categories she was nominated in, taking home Best Country Solo Performance for "Butterflies" and Best Country Song for "Space Cowboy." Musgraves also won Best Country Album and the all-genre category of Album of the Year for her acclaimed third studio album, Golden Hour.

Reflecting on her songwriting process, the singer-songwriter admitted she is very exacting about her standards, and if there's anything about a song "that does not resonate with how I feel, it will not make it into a song, to a fault," Musgraves told reporters.

"Sometimes, you know, I can rein that back a little bit but... it just has to resonate with somewhere in here," she said, motioning to her heart, "or I can't sing it and it's not even believable. There's just no point, it's not even fun for me to try to construct something that just doesn't even feel like me."

Musgraves also spoke about how music connects people, regardless of the genre.

"When I just think about all of us out there who love music, we love it when it hits a nerve, you know? No matter what it sounds like, we're all made of the same stuff with all the same emotions, we need the same things to survive," she observed. "I feel like if you just pay attention to that, what you're feeling, that's what makes it into your songs."

Her wins across genres are still sinking in, Musgraves admits.

"This is a huge honor. Obviously, the country album means a lot to me because that's where my heart is, that's where I grew up. I grew up singing traditional Western swing. There's no way that I can get rid of that in me, I love that so much," she states. "But to say that something that I'm a part of is the best out of the year in which it was thriving with creativity, uniqueness, bold creators stepping out with something to say, the weight of that, I don't think it will really hit me for a really long time."
