K-9 Officer Sniffs Out 5 Pounds Of Meth Inside Minnesota Post Office
Police departments throughout Minnesota continue to work diligently to stop illegal substances from being sold within our communities. While it can seem like a daunting task, there are days when good news arrives.
One such day was this week when a significant amount of methamphetamine was discovered inside the Hibbing Post Office, thanks to a valuable four-legged member of the Lake Superior Violent Offenders Task Force.
The Northland K9 Foundation shared on their Facebook page that after a suspicious package arrived at the post office, authorities were notified.
K-9 Murphy and partner Deputy Campbell, who are both part of the Lake Superior Violent Crimes Task Force arrived. K-9 Murphy sniffed the package in question and indicated the presence of narcotics.

The officers, along with others from the task force, then worked with the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the U.S. Postal Inspector's Office to secure a search warrant. Upon opening the package, they were able to confirm it contained it contained five pounds of meth. Two people related to this incident have since been arrested.
Five pounds of meth will not be sold in our community thanks to the good work of law enforcement and the talented nose of St. Louis County Sheriff's K-9 Murphy.
The Lake Superior Violent Offender Task Force (LSVOTF) is a large multiagency and cooperative effort that serves all of Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin. The LSVOTF consists of members from the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office; the Duluth, Hibbing, Virginia, and Superior Police Departments; Bureau of Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (BATFE), MN National Guard Counter Drug Task Force and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
