As the artist onstage when the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting began on Oct. 1, 2017, Jason Aldean continues to learn to cope with the events of that night. In a new interview, the country star says that, if there's a "silver lining" to be found in the aftermath of the tragedy, it's that some of his relationships have grown stronger because of it.

Aldean tells CMT that every day is still "tough," but that he's been able to lean on his wife of three years, Brittany Kerr, and help her deal with it as well.

“Britt and I were there together, and so her and I lean on each other for that stuff," Aldean says. "My mom, my dad, my sister and people like that weren’t there. More than anything, we were already a pretty tight family, but I think it brought us closer in a lot of ways, too."

Aldean also believes that the Route 91 tragedy -- in which 58 people were killed and hundreds more were injured -- has made his relationship with his fans better.

"It’s made them see me for me and more of a human other than this larger-than-life character," he adds. "I think people have realized you go through stuff just like they do. People probably see me in a different light, which has been good.”

Following the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting, Aldean and his wife returned to Vegas to visit those injured in the attack, but the 2018 ACM Awards, on April 15, will be one of his first trips back to Las Vegas. The singer recently told The Boot and other media outlets that his new album, Rearview Town, due out on April 13, is dedicated to the victims of the tragedy.
