Minnesota Healthcare Costs Rank Among The Lowest In The Country

With the average American spending nearly $15,000 per year on health insurance, it is important to know if the state your live in is among the best- or worst- at maintaining high quality healthcare at a reasonable cost.

Luckily for us here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Minnesota is among the very best states in the country when it comes to healthcare, thanks to a large percentage of insured adults, a relatively low monthly insurance premium and a high number of physicians per capita.

MINNESOTA GREAT FOR HEALTH CARE 

Overall, Minnesota ranked second in the country for Health Care Access, third for cost and 11th for outcomes. The only state to finish with better healthcare value was New Hampshire, who finished first in outcomes, second in cost and 17th in access.

Iowa took the top spot in the 'cost' category and finished third overall, while North Dakota finished in first place in the 'access' category.

Minnesota's second-place finish was buoyed by its having the highest number of convenient care clinics per capita. In addition, Minnesotans have access to the seventh-lowest average out of pocket medical spending and the eighth-lowest monthly premium.

On top of that, there are only three other states in the country that offer lower dental costs than Minnesota's.

QUALITY CARE MATTERS

While access is important, quality of care is also a major factor in Minnesota's high ranking. WalletHub found Minnesota to have the eighth-best public hospital system in the entire country, while residents enjoy the seventh-highest life expectancy.
