5-Year-Old Killed in Rural Minnesota Crash
Linwood Lake, MN (KROC-AM News)- A deadly crash that claimed the life of a child is under investigation in northern Minnesota.
The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched to an iPhone-initiated crash alert shortly before 4 p.m. A passing citizen reported that a child was stuck under the vehicle shortly after law enforcement received the crash report.
The crash occurred about 40 miles north of Duluth on the Vermillion Trial. The citizen who came upon the crash reported seeing the vehicle resting on its side.
First responders from numerous agencies arrived at the scene to try and save the trapped child but the five-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
An adult, who was driving the vehicle, and another child riding in it were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Authorities say the road was packed with ice due to recent snowfall and sub-freezing temperatures. The Minnesota State Patrol responded to assist with the investigation into the deadly crash.
The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office also responded to assist with the death investigation. The St. Louis County Chaplain was also called to assist the family.
