Local Town Celebration Cancelled Due To Delayed Road Construction
We've started to hit peak town celebrations across Central Minnesota. One local community, however, won't be hosting a summer get-together for visitors and residents as delayed road construction has caused some safety concerns. Here's what you need to know about the cancellation.
Wahkon Days Cancelled For 2026
According to a post from the Wahkon W.A.V.E page, the 2026 Wahkon Days celebration won't be happening this year, due to delayed road construction.
"After careful consideration, the Wahkon W.A.V.E. has made the difficult decision to cancel Wahkon Days 2026. Even with prior planning on how to be able to hold the event during construction, we were unable to ensure a safe event for all to attend. With the delay to the start of road construction in Wahkon until July 6th, it’s likely that the dates of Wahkon Days would be in the thick of the construction project. As a committee, we identified several challenges: parking concerns, ability to assure a safe environment for attendees, vendors' ability to participate, traffic control/ detours, placement of events and activities, and inability to hold our traditional parades. We look forward to bringing Wahkon Days back in 2027 and appreciate your understanding & support."
The event was scheduled to run over three days from August 21st through the 23rd.

The good news is that the celebration is coming back in 2027, after all the road work ends.
In past years, the event has included a lure scavenger hunt, a craft fair, live music, and of course, a parade.
