Good news for anglers waiting for the return of catch-and-release walleye fishing and use of live bait on Mille Lacs Lake. Beginning Friday, August 11, walleye fishing will once again be allowed. This season will continue through Monday, September 4.
Mille Lacs Lake needs to rebuild its walleye population so the Minnesota Department Of Natural Resources has announced that catch-and-release only regulations will be in effect once again as anglers hit the water on May 13.
The MN DNR has released a statement that anglers won't be able to keep any walleyes caught this year on Mille Lacs. Also, anglers can only use artificial bait unless they are fishing from a commercial launch.
Some encouraging news from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. For the first time since 2008, Mille Lacs Lake walleye surviving into their second year remain abundant and the following year’s hatch appears to be doing well.
If you are a Mille Lacs Lake walleye enthusiast, you will be happy to know that anglers may fish at night beginning Monday, July 21 at 10 p.m., according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
