The Minnesota State Patrol is reminding motorists that when they are on the road, they should have their lights on, just make sure those lights are their headlights and not holiday lights. It's illegal to drive with your car covered in Christmas tree lights, and one Minnesota driver learned that lesson recently.

The Minnesota State Patrol recently posted to social media a photo of a pickup truck covered in holiday lights, which, if you didn't know, is illegal to drive with.

While the truck looks fun and festive, it's a distraction on the road.

"Unless otherwise authorized by the commissioner of public safety, no vehicle shall be equipped, nor shall any person drive or move any vehicle or equipment upon any highway with any lamp or device displaying a red light or any colored light other than those required or permitted in this chapter."
