A young Wisconsin hunter out doing some spring turkey hunting had an encounter where he himself was being hunted.

A 19-year-old named Carson Bender was turkey hunting in the woods near his hometown of Wisconsin Rapids when he heard a noise behind him.

Carson was watching a turkey in front of him, but the noise behind him got him curious to see what it was. As he described the scene to KARE 11, he decided to stealthily use his phone to see what was behind him so as not to scare it away. Who knows, maybe it was a big turkey that snuck up on him? Turns out it was most definitely not a turkey.

What he captured with his phone camera was a bobcat that had snuck up behind him, stalking him before eventually lunging at Carson. The animal spent some time sizing up Carson before jumping at him and attacking.

You can see his now-viral video of the incident below.

Carson joked that he found out he's "good at calling cats and turkeys", saying that he took some scratches to his shoulder, but wasn't severely hurt.

He said he stayed for a few minutes after the attack to take a shot at the turkey he had been watching, but missed. After the miss, he headed to the doctor to get his injuries checked out.

A wildlife expert with the University of Wisconsin told KARE 11 this kind of encounter is "not normal". He says bobcats are "curious, but shy", and can be easy to scare off. While bobcats aren't deadly to humans like an encounter with a mountain lion would be, they can "tear you up", as happened a little bit with Carson.

Some people in the comments on Carson's video said he should have scared it off before it attacked. Carson didn't respond to his reasoning for not doing that, but I'm guessing he was trying to avoid scaring the turkey he was watching. He did tell KARE 11 that while it was "a little freaky", he said the experience was also "cool".

He did, a couple of days later, get a turkey. He shared the experience on Instagram.
