NWS Warns Wisconsin Could See ‘Winter Weather Travel Disruptions’ Thanksgiving Week
For people with Thanksgiving Week travel plans that involve Wisconsin, this is some unfortunate news.
It is looking possible that winter weather travel disruptions could hit the Badger State for Thanksgiving Week, as a risk of heavy snow is appearing in the holiday week forecast.
NOAA's Climate Prediction Center (CPC) recently put out a note that they are seeing increasing odds of what they're calling a "pattern change" for the end of November and early parts of December across Wisconsin and surrounding states.
That possible change they're referring to? A swing toward below-normal, winterlike temperatures and an uptick in precipitation chances - which would translate to snow, with those colder temperatures likely to set in.

Going along with that general outlook, the CPC has also been watching the possibility of heavy snow for the last week of November, perfectly timed to potentially impact Thanksgiving week travel.
While it is still a little far away to offer a detailed forecast, with a lot that could change between now and then, the Climate Prediction Center is watching a 20%-40% risk of heavy snow across roughly the northern half of Wisconsin the week of Thanksgiving.
As you can see in the map below, almost all of the northern half of Wisconsin, including places like Eau Claire, Wausau, Rice Lake, Superior, and Ashland, are in an area of risk for potentially heavy snowfall in the window of time between Tuesday, November 25, and Monday, December 1, 2025.
It is worth noting that the risk level is the lowest category of the three risk levels the CPC uses on their heavy snowfall map, but the fact that the odds are as significant as they are and have been persistent for the last few days, it's worth continuing to monitor as Thanksgiving gets closer.

As we get closer, we could see those odds increase or decrease as the forecast picture gets clearer. We'll keep an eye on it and keep you updated!
