Minnesota To Lose Airline Option As Company Cuts Routes From State
Minnesotans will soon be losing an airline option as the company prepares to cut its routes to and from Minnesota.
The website Airline Geeks (H/T BMTN) is reporting that ultra-low fare airline Spirit Airlines is planning to cut its service to Minnesota by the end of the year.
The bargain airline has been dropping routes around the country, with Airline Geeks reporting earlier in September that they would be discontinuing service in 11 different cities across the country, including places like San Diego, Salt Lake City, Portland, and Albuquerque. Now the Twin Cities' biggest airport is among the new additions to that list.
An internal memo that Airline Geeks was able to recently acquire says that Spirit Airlines plans to add a pair of new markets to its list of places they are dropping service to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and Bradley International Airport in Hartford, Connecticut.

CNBC reports Spirit Airlines informed its staff last week that around 40 routes would be suspended and around 1,800 flight attendants (roughly one third of its cabin crew) would be furloughed.
The Spirit Airlines website notes that in August, its parent company filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy "in order to execute a comprehensive restructuring of the airline and position the business for long-term success."
Service from MSP in the Twin Cities has included flights to places like Las Vegas, Orlando, Detroit, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia.
According to the internal memo that Airline Geeks is citing, Spirit Airlines will end service from Minnesota on December 1, 2025, discontinuing its routes to and from MSP after operating out of the airport since 2012.
