Whether it's a ride way above the fairgrounds or just the perfect backdrop for a Minnesota State Fair selfie, the "Great Big Wheel" is a popular (and very recognizable) aspect of the fair each year.

For me, a ride on the giant ferris wheel at the north end of the fairgrounds is a tradition each year I go to the fair. Getting the chance to see all of the fair from high above the ground, even seeing the Twin Cities skylines in the distance.

This year, the Great Big Wheel is being replaced. Don't worry though, it is being replaced by something even bigger and better!

One of the new things announced for the 2026 Minnesota State Fair is an all-new ferris wheel experience, with something called the America Wheel being brought to the fair to commemorate America's 250th birthday this summer. The photo at the top of the article is this new ride.

Besides some patriotic flair, this even bigger than the 'Big Wheel' experience will bring fairgoers to even higher heights!

This new America Wheel rises 230 feet above the ground, which makes this new attraction a full 75 feet higher than the Great Big Wheel you know and love from visits to the fair in years past!

This touring ride features 45 gondolas and views up to 14 miles in each direction from the attraction where it stands on the north end of the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.

Much like the Great Big Wheel, this America Wheel lights up as the sun goes down, making it an even bigger photo op day or night at this year's Great Minnesota Get-Together.

Thie American Wheel will be open daily throughout this year's fair from 10 am until 11 pm except for on the final day of the fair. On Labor Day, this ride will close at 8 pm.
