Celebrate The Greatest Great Lake On ‘Lake Superior Day’ This Weekend
Some people might say we're biased, but it's a statistical fact that Lake Superior is, well, superior. We call it the greatest of the Great Lakes because it's the largest, deepest. clearest, and coldest of the Great Lakes. It's just also pretty awesome all around.
To celebrate, the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve has teamed up with NOAA, the City of Superior, the University of Wisconsin-Superior and a number of other Twin Ports area organizations and businesses to organize this year's Lake Superior Day, which is Sunday, July 19.

This day full of free activities and fun to celebrate Lake Superior will be hosted on Barker's Island in Superior from 11 am until 3 pm. There will be activities for people of all ages, making it a great family outing this weekend!
You'll be able to find the various activities at or near the Lake Superior Estuarium on Barker's Island.

Here's a look at some of the things you'll be able to do during this year's Lake Superior Day.
What's going on for Lake Superior Day 2026 on Barker's Island?
Some of the things you'll be able to do for free on Sunday include checking out the Estuarium, stand-up paddleboard demonstrations, find your way through the water cycle obstacle course, make puppets of creatures that live on or near the water, enjoy kids and family activities, explore Lake Superior learning booths, and check out vendors set up in the area.
In addition, the nearby SS Meteor will be offering half-priced tours of the ship during the day of the event. You can buy these on the day of the event or get them ahead of time using the discount code LAKESUPERIORDAY2026 on the ship's booking site.
As you probably know, parking is limited near the Estuarium. There will be free shuttles running between the Superior Public Library and the event on Barker’s Island. Buses begin at 10:45 am, and run about every 30 minutes throughout the event.
