There are snapshots of your life that will stick with you over the years.  These images create a mental scrapbook in your mind going back as early as you can remember.  In my mental scrapbook, K&B Drive in has it's own chapter.  It was a very popular restaurant in it's day, and I remember many times visiting K&B over the years.  It's very sad to see the building burn down, and it's hard to say goodbye to a place you grew up with.

My Grandpa & Grandma loved K&B.  They were who first took me there 30 years ago.  Sometimes we would sit in the GMC Jimmy and eat under the canopy, but often we would go inside and eat in the diner.  There were collectible cars, photos of hot rods, and oldies playing in the diner.  It was the first place I had crinkle cut fries.  Honestly, it was probably the first place I had a hamburger at a restaurant.

It was always busy, and the reach of K&B reached beyond it's restaurant with their pasties they became famous for.  We always had a few in the freezer.

I hadn't been to K&B in years when one day my wife and I were driving by.  She, being from Duluth, hadn't heard of K&B.  So when we were driving by one day she asked about that restaurant on the side of the road.  I took her their for lunch one day and I was happy to see not much had changed.  This was a few years ago.

In more recent years, it had changed.  It had become a smokehouse BBQ for some time, but it always kept the K&B Pasty Factory on the sign.  Now with it gone we will see what happens in the future.  For many like me, at least we'll have the memories of an Iron Range staple.
