Ice Houses Need To Be Off Lakes Soon, Anglers Running Into Problems

This weekend is the date for anyone south of "the line" to remove their permanent ice houses from the lakes in Minnesota. However, this brutal winter is making house removal very difficult in some parts of the state.

The line is described as an eastwest line formed by U.S. Hwy. 10, east along Hwy. 34 to Minnesota Hwy. 200, east along Hwy. 200 to U.S. Hwy. 2, and east along Hwy. 2 to the Minnesota-Wisconsin border.

If you're north of that line, you have until March 17th, but you may want to start sooner.  As seen in the video from KSTP, some parts of the state dealt with a warm up that thawed some ice, followed by a deep freeze that's cemented it in.  Not to mention the piles of snow that make it difficult to even get out to the house in the first place.
