We took advantage of the high humidity on Sunday morning that warmed Duluth's famous Lakewalk and took a walk.  (I'm still unable to run until this Wednesday). We were just behind the row of hotels in the canal and something caught my eye moving on Lake Superior that was very unusual.

It was a water skier being pulled by a speed boat, right behind the row of hotels in the canal.  If you're a native of Duluth, how often do you see that?  Especially so close to the shipping canal and the two piers that lead boats under the Aerial Lift Bridge.

It's the largest freshwater lake in the world, one inch of surface water is equal to 553 billion gallons.  So, there's a lot of area to water ski on, but due to the extreme cool temperature of the water, even in the summer, having to wait to be picked up after you fall would be mighty uncomfortable.

According to the National Park Service website, water skiing IS allowed on Lake Superior, you just don't see it very often.  What we have seen more of is electric boats in the harbor.

You may also have seen more jet skis racing up and down the shore from a rental company called K&J Watersports.

Any way you enjoy Lake Superior, even if it's just a walk on the Lakewalk, you have to agree that it is an amazing body of water and I am thrilled to live in the Northland with the ability to enjoy it every day.
