Highway 61 Detour Near County Road 7 To End

As the project along the North Shore approaches it's completion, officials with the Minnesota Department of Transportation are alerting the general public about the ending of the detour that's existed on County Road 7.  The project on Highway 61 near Grand Marais has necessitated the detour for most of the summer road construction season.

As early as Friday, September 17 the truck traffic that was originally detoured on County Road 7 and southbound Highway 71 vehicular traffic on County 8 to 8th Avenue West is expected to be rerouted back to it's original layout on Highway 61.  Then, once those detours are lifted, the temporary signal that exists at 5th Avenue West and County Road 7 will remain in red flashing 4-way stop mode until the signal is removed at some point early in the week of September 20.  This will transition the work zone back to normal operation of the intersection.

According to the details released by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, finishing work in the area the remainder of the summer will happen without traffic impacts.  Remaining work includes the installation of sidewalks and pedestrian ramps, the final grading and sodding, signing and striping, bench and bike rack installation, and the landscaping - including planting trees and shrubs.
