We kick off the summer season with Memorial Day Weekend in just days. Lots of Minnesotans are heading to their cabin, friends ' cabins, resorts, or vacation spots. Many of those favorite places are in Northern Minnesota. Heads up, a bridge project could cause some delays.

I knew about the project happening, but that doesn't mean I remembered until I came across it last weekend for the first time. One of the main roadways going through Northern Minnesota has a bridge being replaced. The bridge is out, and detours and delays can be expected during peak traffic times.

The Highway 53 bridge at Highway 37 is being replaced. Traffic is being sent down the ramps to Highway 37 to temporary stop lights, and then back up the ramps onto Highway 53. Other construction is taking place, too, with a roundabout being installed at Progress Parkway.

The project will happen in stages, with different detour routes being used as necessary. Stay up to date on the latest with the project through the Minnesota Department of Transportation's project page.

The project will take all summer to finish with completion in October 2025. Pavement resurfacing and geometric improvements will also be a part of the project.

You also should check MNDOT's 511 page for road conditions and future road construction projects. It's the kickoff to summer, and the kickoff to road construction season.

LOOK: See how much gasoline cost the year you started driving

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.

Read on to explore the cost of gas over time and rediscover just how much a gallon was when you first started driving.
