So, you've signed up to challenge yourself by running Grandma's Marathon weekend.  Now the reality hits you that you need to have a training plan.   Luckily, Grandma's Marathon is here to help you achieve your goals.

Don't miss the annual Gearing Up for Grandma's pre-race seminar on Saturday, March 21. This free event from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Essentia Health’s First Street Building, is an entertaining and valuable training resource for both first-timers and veteran runners.

The seminar’s featured speaker is Kelly Brinkman, one of Minnesota’s top distance runners.

According to Grandma's Marathon, Brinkman, who resides in St. Louis Park, Minn., plans to race in Duluth’s June 20 Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon, with hopes of qualifying for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials, scheduled for Feb. 13 in Los Angeles. She qualified for – and competed in – the 2012 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials held in Houston.  She also won the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon in 2012.

Other Gearing Up for Grandma’s presenters include:

  • Ben Nelson, MD – Grandma’s Marathon Medical Director and Essentia Health Orthopedic/Sports Medicine Physician
  • Amanda Joyce, MS, RD, LD – Essentia Health Registered Dietitian
  • Jim and Mary Stukel – Owners of Tortoise and Hare Footwear

It truly is a great opportunity to get the knowledge and inspiration you need to literally hit the ground running.

Look for me out there training as well and good luck!
