Grandma’s Marathon weekend is three months away already and training season is in full swing, how about some pointers and tips?

To help runners along in their training journey, Essentia Health and Grandma’s Marathon are hosting the annual Gearing up for Grandma’s pre-race event on Saturday, March 23rd. The event will offer a new breakout session format that will allow attendees to choose sessions that interest them. The event will also showcase a variety of resource tables and keynote speaker, Jeff Galloway. This is a free event with sessions running from 10 a.m to 12 p.m. at the Essentia Health Duluth Clinic First Street Building. The event is a valuable training resource for both first-time and veteran runners.

Grandma’s Marathon will be offering a 5K group run with Jeff Galloway prior to the event. The group run begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. and starts and finishes in the lobby of the Essentia Health Duluth Clinic First Street Building. All abilities are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Following the run, a light breakfast will be provided for attendees, courtesy of Essentia Health. There will also be a clearance sale on Grandma’s Marathon tech shirt apparel. The resource tables that will be available throughout the event will showcase Jeff Galloway’s training method along with run analysis tools.

Here's a list of the Breakout Sessions:

  • Yoga for Runners
  • Self Defense for Runners
  • Strength & Resistance Training in Distance Running
  • Runners’ Nutrition
  • Race Course Information.

Jeff Galloway, the keynote speaker, focuses on training plans that have opened up the life-changing experience of finishing a distance event to almost everyone. His methods are proven to reduce aches, pains, and injuries. Galloway designed the Run Walk Run Method to help beginners start running as it incorporates strategic walk breaks that allow each runner to control fatigue and eliminate significant running injuries.

A prize drawing will conclude the event, which is presented by Essentia Health and Grandma's Marathon.
