Free Powerports Safety Event Coming To Superior Middle School

A Let's Ride Powersports Safety Program is taking place on September 12th at the Superior Middle School. It's a "Gear Up Wisconsin" event that aims to inspire youth to wear helmets and proper safety gear when operating powersports equipment.

It will be hosted by Hubert Rowland, "Everybody's Favorite Rednek" Hubert Nowland from Nitro Circus.  X Games gold medalist Levi Lavelle will be there as well, along with other athletes.

According to a press release, the safety organization identifies a real need with youth to be educated about property safety when operating atv's and utv's. There were 3,315 child fatalities under the age of 16 since 1982.  1 in 5 fatalities involving an ATV involves a child under 16.

The Douglas County Sheriff Department says there were 6 atv accidents in just 9 days this summer.

The event is open to the public. It takes place on September 12th from 3:30-6:30pm at the Superior MIddle School.
