Last year the solar garden was just a plan, now it's beginning to take shape.

The solar garden, which you can see from I35 right next to the M&H gas station on the corner of W Superior St. and W Michigan St. put up its first panels this week.

When completed the garden will produce 40-kilowatts of energy and be made of 120 solar panels and generate over $300,000 in renewable energy in its expected 25-year lifespan.

Over the last week or so crews have been busy pouring concrete fountains and installing steel poles, installing brackets, panels, and electrical components.

The energy generated will be allocated to the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans and our Emergency Energy Fund.

Ecolibrium3 is leading the project with a variety of local partners, they say that they'll plan a grand opening celebration at some point.
