Will Duluth Get Its First Major Snowstorm In February?
It didn't start to feel like winter in Minnesota, for the most part, until this year. We were spoiled with pretty mild conditions and barely any snow throughout the end of 2023. Now, winter is officially here!

If you're a Northlander, you know that it has been really cold this week. At the time of writing, it is expected to continue that way until this weekend and early next week. It's been a bit of a shock considering how nice it has been until this point.
However, we all know that something like this couldn't last forever. While we've been hit with the cold, we have yet to be hit with our first major snowstorm of the season. Will that be coming our way next month?

I looked at the Old Farmer's Almanac to find out. They aren't always correct with their predictions but I always think it is a good place to start. They make long term weather predictions by region, and ours includes the Northland.
Will We Get Heavy Snow In February?
So, will we finally get our first big snowstorm next month? According to their forecast, the answer is no. While there are snow chances in the Duluth area, there aren't any major snow storms in the forecast.
What Will The Forecast Be?
Here's what they are forecasting:
- Bitter cold and snowy periods for the first week of the month or so
- Flurries will fall near the ninth through Valentine's Day
- Rain and snow will mix from the holiday through the eighteenth
- A break from precipitation is expected for a few days with sunshine and cold temperatures
- The month will end with rain and snow mix
There you have it! No major snowstorms in our future which I am fine with. After living through Duluth's snowiest winter ever last winter, I am totally fine with less snow than average. I would take the cold over the snow any day.
