Everson Griffen has been a Minnesota Viking since 2010, but will not be any longer. He opted out of his contract back in February and became a free agent. The Vikings and Coach Mike Zimmer wanted him back on the team and were trying to strike a deal, but Griffen signed a one year deal with the Dallas Cowboys yesterday.

According to The Star Tribune, Minnesota made a strong offer but it wasn't enough. The deal with Dallas is reported to be a one year contract worth about 6 million dollars.

Griffen started his pro football career as a second pick in the 4th round draft by the Minnesota Vikings. In his first year he played 11 games and had 11 solo tackles for the season. The following several years he played regularly, but it wasn't until 2014 when he had his breakout season as his first full year as a starter. He finished 2014 with 57 tackles, a forced fumble, a blocked put for a touchdown, and a career best 12 sacks. In his statistics so far he has had 74.5 sacks, 353 tackles, 10 forced fumbles, 2 interceptions, and 2 defensive touchdowns. Griffen has been to the NFL Pro Bowl in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2019.

In 2017 Griffen signed a 4 year $58 million contract extension through the 2022 season. He opted out of his contract in February of 2020. On Wednesday night August 12, 2020 he signed with the Dallas Cowboys where he rejoins former Vikings' defensive coordinator George Edwards.
